From The Vinyl Crate

Herbie Hancock has always been a favorite of mine. His seemingly endless talent spans not only the ages, but also the genres. Today's track is a funky jazz piece named "Chameleon". It is the first of four tracks on arguably one of Hancock's best records (#498 in Rolling Stone's Top 500), Head Hunter. The track is a lengthy 15:48, but interestingly starts and ends at the same tempo, peaking at a significantly faster pace about halfway through the song. If you haven't heard of Herbie Hancock before, I suggest you check him out. He has quite an impressive discography and I can personally say I am yet to hear an album by him that sounded mediocre. Grab the entire Head Hunter LP for cheap at Discogs.

From The Vinyl Crate

Let me preface this by saying I really don't know that much about Hip-Hop. Honestly, I barely know the difference between Rap and Hip-Hop. Fortunately, there is one thing I know, and that's a good song. This track comes from my favorite Hip-Hop (am I being politically correct here?) album of all time: "The Unseen" by Madlib alter-ego, Quasimoto. You may have noticed the pitched up vocals and well placed sampling. Well, without trying the analyze the musical qualities of the song and their undertones, I can say that this entire album (all 22 tracks) was produced and recorded within a week long shrooms binge. That being said, just listen to the track, and purchase this entire album when you're done, you won't regret it. Purchase from Discogs or iTunes.

Acne Ryan GD Shirt

So the past few weeks I have been thinking about what my next purchase will be. Something that I feel is relevant for the winter is a heavy duty cotton shirt. This army-inspired shirt by Acne might just do the trick. With two chest pockets and two hip pockets, it seems to be a little more than a shirt, yet a little less than a jacket. Find it at Norse Store

Visvim Varsity Jacket in Goat Suede

This beautifully constructed varsity jacket is made by Japanese brand Visvim. Although extremely pricey, Visvim elevates design and implements a unique view on the most basic garments. What really caught my attention about this jacket was the deep color, almost a redwood tree type feel to it. It comes in two different colors and is available at Union Los Angeles

Tricker's for Norse Store The Zug

Seems as if every fine shoemaker is coming out with textured leather shoe, but few do it as good as Tricker's. If you are looking for a sturdy, chunky-soled shoe these just might be for you; there's word going around that sleek is making a comeback, but that just a rumor. These brown cap toes are real pretty looking and they would look good in anyone's-- or maybe just my-- closet. Get these at Norse Store.

Dries Van Noten Time Sweater Camel

I think that the V-Neck t-shirt may be on its way out but the V-Neck sweater is here to stay. I'm a fan of nearly every piece that Dries creates and this season he delivers once again. The color and the weight of the fabric really have me sold. It real lightweight blend that has a certain drape that sits really well right about the wrists. Dries manages to keep clean lines on this one which I also like. Buy that at Tres Bien

From The Vinyl Crate

I don't really know how to label this one, I guess it's house music because of the 4x4 beat, but it takes about 10 seconds of listening to know this has more intelligence than your average house track. I think it's the flute that gives it that southern jazz feeling to it. Anyways, today's track is called "Fresh Noodles" by Mr. Scruff and Kaidi Tatham. Kaidi, interestingly enough (as you may also know him as Agent K), is on the flute in this track. Both being men of great talent, this track is very exemplary of their production potential in that it maintains a jazzy and housey feel without being tied to the constraints of either genre. Grab the digital or vinyl release of this track alongside the likes of Motor City Drum Enseble and Andres from Boomkat.

Folk Overcoat

Not all of us here at Field Experience have the need to buy clothes for the cold months ahead. Since I'm the only one who lives at a place where polar bears and penguins are quite common to stumble upon at the sidewalk I find it appropriate to make a post about this coat from Folk. To me a good coat needs to have a classic silhouette, but at the same time something that makes it stand out and that's what this coat does. The detachable leather straps and the contrasting white lining is what caught my attention, and of course that it is made from Italian wool, you can't go wrong with that. Unionmadegoods got it

Unionmade Indigo Farm Tactics Henley

We love henley's and we love three quarter sleeve shirts and you know what? We love this shirt too. Made in the USA, Farm Tactics does a great job with the basics-- mainly things like tee's. A batch of their quality shirts was overdyed with Unionmade's Indigo and they look fantastic. In addition to these t-shirts Unionmade collaborated with brands like Raleigh Denim and Golden Bear. Check it all out at Unionmade Goods.

Howlin by Morrison Mahoney Hat in Grey

Morrison is a Scottish brand formed in 1980's and masters in cold weather wear. This beanie seems to have the perfect fit. Made from 100% Scottish Lambswool.  Don't cut corners when getting accessories. (Unionmade)

Band of Outsiders Classic Oxford Shirt Blue Base

It has been far too long since we have made a post and we sincerely apologize for that. Anyways, I was at the Department Superstore Selfridges over the summer and came across this incredible shirt by Band of Outsiders. Some may say that Band of Outsiders is one of the most overpriced brands in the game right now, however they have probably never tried on a shirt made by the brand. The fit is not comparable to any garment I've worn before, and the print on this guy is extremely sharp. This shirt is a bit more pricey because it's made in Italy instead of Los Angeles (and that't a great thing). Get it at Tres Bien

From The Vinyl Crate

Anyone who knows me is well aware of my infatuation with electronic music. In fact, I actually spend more time on the internet searching for new electronic music than most 16 year old girls spend on Facebook any given day of the week. Jokes aside, today's record is brought to us by New York local and disco king Holy Ghost! (that exclamation point is part of his moniker). Now, I don't know if you ever heard the original mix of this track, but this is one of those remixes that takes a mediocre song, turns it upside down, slaps a completely different beat on it, and leaves you wondering how the remix was even inspired in the first place. This record is a must have given the 45 rpm pressing on 180-gram vinyl—it takes two hands just to set the thing on your turntable. Snag it from Discogs.

Yuketen - Maine Guide OX

It's hard to talk about Yuketen Footwear without getting a bit emotional. The quality, love, and intention that goes into this brand makes me proud to be an American. Not too long ago, this country was at the forefront of design, and it't nice to know that some people still care about aesthetics in the United States. Yuketen provides the highest quality of leathers and finishes, and sits on a good ol' Vibram sole. Keep fighting the good fight and making us proud. (Norse Store)

Anachronorm Zip Crew Neck Sweatshirt

This garment is a little more complex than it looks. It seems to be a mix between a crew neck, zip front, henley and bomber. Anachronorm creates basics with intricate design, and you could expect nothing less coming from Japan. Available at Union Los Angeles

The Perfect Leather Jacket(s)

Last night, I laid in my bed owl-eyed, anxiously in search of two jackets: one brown and one black. Let it be known, this post is completely subjective. I like leather jackets that have an asymmetrical zip, so both jackets that I found last night zip asymmetrically. When unzipped jackets should flop around a bit and have a lot of give; you know, so it makes it looks like you almost dont care when you really do. Theres also only two colors I even like a light brown and black-- I'm a simple guy and a bit of a classicist. Anyway, my search lead me the first jacket made by Polo Ralph Lauren. I was a bit skeptic because of Polo's large range of clothing, but after looking at the price tag its got to be good. This jacket has a nice soft, distressed look, and some cargo space on the front. What really sold me was the side strap fastening, which makes it a little more flattering around the waist. Buy this one at Mr. Porter. The next jacket that is an absolute bargain at $850. It's made by Shipley and Halmos who's done increasingly well over the past year or so. This, by no surprise is also an asymmetrical zip jacket. I like this one because of its simplicity. It gives you the chance to put your own distressing on the jacket which is always fun. Find this at Shipley and Halmos

From The Vinyl Crate

This track comes from a 12" I picked up a couple weeks ago featuring Willie Bobo's classic "Spanish Grease". The A-side features a 4-on-the-floor remix by one of my favorite producers and half of Kruder & Dorfmeister, Richard Dorfmeister. While the remix is unusually fast paced and bright for a producer known for downtempo and darker sounds, the bassline alongside bright percussion leaves little to be desired. Pick up the vinyl from Discogs.

Tonello Suit Navy

Here's a really beautiful suit for Autumn/Winter. Tonello pays close attention to detail on this one; between the stitching on the notch lapels and the front darts you can tell they put some serious thought into this suit. Some people may not be able to distinguish a Summer suit from one more appropriately worn in Autumn. When I look at a suit, the fabric, texture and weight of the it allows me to determine what season the suit is meant to be worn in. By Tonello choosing a wool pique fabric it makes it a great wear for the Fall versus a cotton or linen suit. Regardless of all the specs, it's a sartorial masterpiece. Por Vocacao

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Quartz Men's Watch

We believe that wearing a watch is a gesture that shows you care a little extra about how you present yourself, not how much you have. That being said, brand and cost are not important factors in purchasing watch. Furthermore, the watch does not have to have all the bells and whistles, unless you are a pilot, marine, diver, or Inspector Gadget. Less is always more with watches. That's why this Omega Seamaster is great-- it's modest, clean, and would look sharp with a suit or in casual clothes. Find it for purchase here. If you can't find a watch you like in your price range, ebay is an excellent way to go. Also, a lot of great vintage watches there.

Shipley & Halmos Bainbridge Anorak Jacket

Summer is officially over and it's time to sort out your jacket options. This waxed cotton anorak by Shipley & Halmos is a great way to for the fall. You could get some serious use out of this garment due to its simplicity and matchable color. The thought of this with a pair of Yuketen's is enough to make a grown man cry. Check it out at Park and Bond.

Wings + Horns Leather Low Top Sneaker

Leather Low Top Sneaker White

Common Projects Shmommon Shmojects. If you're looking for a durable, high quality basic sneaker this is a great option. With clothes it is necessary to pay close attention to detail. The heavy stitching, the cap toe, the leather lacing and the leather lining are just a few things that set this pair of shoes apart from the rest. For those who aren't familiar with wings+horns, they are a Japanese inspired brand from Canada that provide a cutting edge line of menswear, launched in 2004. Get 'em while they're hot. Haven

Ralph Lauren Black Label Lightweight Knit Hoodie

So you already know that we are huge fans of Ralph Lauren at Field Experience, but what you might now know is that some of us here are just as interested in fitness as we are men's clothing. On a light work out day something like the Lightweight Knit Hoodie would be appropriate-- especially if you are into having some serious gym steeze. Just try not to tear this thing up when getting your pump, it's a little pricey. Barney's

Alden x Leffot Day Tripper Boot

I know, posting two pairs of boots in a row is a bit much, but there's certain romance with shoes and I that I can't explain-- and these Alden Boots really wow me. Ravello cordovan leather is something of a rarity in the world of Alden and Leffot, a fine shoe retailer, was fortunate enough to whip up a small batch of these perfect shoes. After recently purchasing a pair of Alden oxfords, I find myself instantly wanting another pair. Undoubtedly Alden is the finest custom bootmaker in the United States and their shoes are nearly one of the only companies that make me proud of American Fashion. Leffot

Fracap M127 Scarponcini Boot

Here's the thing about Fracap: They are the best looking hiking boots on the market right now. They're also a bit more affordable than their arch rival Diemme. Both of the brands hand make their shoes in Italy with premium leathers so you really can't go wrong either of them. I quite like the Scarponcini because is it feels a little more stripped down than most of the hiking boots on the market right now. Now that the Japanese lost exclusivity to these shoes Fracap allows any old Tom, Dick, or Harry to purchase these. Who cares if you hike or not. End Clothing

Monsieur Lacenaire-Teddy Knitted Alpaca Varsity Jacket

Looky here, this is the most innovative twist on a varsity jacket we've seen to date. Not only is the entire varsity jacket knitted, it's made of Alpaca. Woah. The poet named, Paris-based brand Monsieur Lacenaire redefines the classic varsity jacket; in all honesty I like it better knitted. This piece is a perfect year round jacket to have laying around-- it looks warm enough for a California winter and light enough for a brisk spring day. This is one of three beautiful garments the brand has to offer at Mr Porter

From The Vinyl Crate

Anonymous records are always fun. It's the inherent mystery they carry that pushes the hype to the next level. This record isn't entirely in the dark, it just seemed like the record label forgot to credit the artist on the actual record or the sleeve. Luckily for us, London prodigy Lukid can take the credit for this one. "Genie" is a great upbeat track loaded with summery vibes and a whole heap of bass. The track samples BBQ Band's "Genie" (sample appears around 40 seconds), and leave more of a 90's vibe than anything else. This one aint cheap, but you can pick it up from Discogs as usual here.

Mugler Men's Formal Woolen Jacket

Yeah we know Lady Gaga did some sketchy stuff with Mugler and they had that skeleton tattooed guy as their model, but after coming out with a woolen jacket like this we forgive them. This season it seems as if every single clothing company that makes blazers or suits is going from a 2 button to a 3 button-- in this case 6 buttons because it's double breasted. Anyways, we love it. It's matched with black trousers here but would look equally as sharp with a pair of grey wool trousers and a sharp, angular shoe or boot. The UK's Oki-Ni has it.

Jungmaven White Short Sleeve

Jungmaven is a new name, but we like what we see. The short sleeve white tee is an obvious staple in any mans closet, but  all too often used as an undershirt. There aren't too many outfits more fashionable than a white t-shirt, your favorite pair of jeans, and a good pair of suede shoes. We really like the proportions of this tee from the pictures it looks like the arms are a bit longer and more tapered than your average hanes undershirt. Plus it's cheap, get it at Context

Our Legacy 1940'S Rinse Wash Button Down

For the Fall, it's always important to have a solid button down lying around. This washed denim rinse shirt uses cotton from Italy providing the highest quality, and softest of fabrics. If you ever have the pleasure of trying an Our Legacy shirt on you'll know just what I mean. To provide a little background, Our Legacy is a Swedish clothier created by Founders Cristopher Nying and Jockum Hallin. They are known for designing extremely wearable garments and this is shirt is no exception. Pair it with some chinos and you're good to go. (Our Legacy)

From The Vinyl Crate

I know what you're thinking—all I ask is that you try to remeber that old saying "don't judge a book by it's cover". Today's track comes as a re-edit of "I'm Not Moving" by none other than Phil Collins. If you ask the average kid what they think about Phil Collins in this day and age, you may get little more than a sour looking expression. Luckily, for those that respect Collins' place in musical history, we have a spectacular re-edit allegedly coming from two North London locals known as the Idjut Boys. This re-edit seems to transcend the seemingly immiscible sounds of both Phil Collins and dub disco—which until I heard this, did not know was possible. I can't really put my finger on what attracts me to this track so much, but I can tell you confidently that before this, I've never had Phil Collins lyrics stuck in my head. This white label record will cost you a pretty penny, but with a B-side featuring a Marvin Gaye edit, the price is hard to argue. Purchase it from Discogs.

Levi's Vintage Clothing - Stripe T-Shirt In Verdant Greent

Clothing has the ability to bring you to a different time and place. Levi's vintage clothing has that affect on us here at Field experience. The texture and color of the fabric is just something different. This T-Shirt here is one of the best tee's I've seen in a while. It would perfectly suit one of those kids in the movie "Stand By Me." You know what movie we're talkin' bout. Pick it up at Unionmade Goods, they really have one of the greatest selections of vintage inspired clothing we've seen.

Why We Care

Some people ask us why we care so much about clothes. It's a bit hard for me to articulate why, but it just feels so damn good when you know you're the best dressed in the room. There used to be a time when there was something to be said about someone who was well put together. When we say well put together we are NOT insinuating that someone must wear expensive clothes-- it's just that you feel a certain dignity when you spend a little more time putting yourself together and other people notice that. Now there may be a handful of nay sayers that give you a bit flack for looking better than them; pity them and walk right through them, gentlemen.

Diemme X Nitty Gritty Firenze Boot

Summer has just now passed so you know its time to get some booty. Not that slimy shit, but some real boots. Boots like these. The vibram wedge sole is a real compliment to the buttery dark brown suede; Diemme is not only known for making fashionable footwear, but functional and durable footwear. Nitty Gritty's got some good taste; everyone needs a little chocolate in their life. Purchase them here Nitty Gritty.

Maison Martin Margiela 11 Men's Bracelet

Season after season Maison Martin Margiela 11 delivers handsome metal accessories for men. There is always one piece that is an absolute necessity. This season, this golden brass colored bracelet is something that would look good on just about anybody's wrist; something that would look good on a person anywhere from 15 to 50. It's definitely got a bit of bling to it, but not too flashy for us of here at Field Experience. Another great piece of masculine arm candy from Margiela; gentlemen chain mail is back. Buy this at Ok-Ni.

Epaulet 'EP's Rivet Chino Heavyweight Twill Olive

Have a pair of these myself, and must admit they are extremely well made and are tailored to perfection. Snag a pair for yourself. Epaulet New York

Nigel Cabourn Camera Jacket In Tan

Another impeccable jacket from Nigel Cabourn this season. Known for his outerwear, Nigel Cabourn creates vintage military inspired clothing that ends up being completely stylish and functional. The top of the jacket is waxed cotton that is notorious for looking better with age; the bottom is made with beatiful Harris Tweed Though this   particular jacket is worn with Yuketen boots, it could just as easily be worn with your favorite dark denim and a pair of Common Projects. Anyways, this may break your bank, but it will certainly make your wardrobe. Purchase this at the world's finest: Trés Bien

OH SHIT MOMENT: RRL IS AVAILABLE ONLINE

As long as we here at Field Experience have been interested in clothing, leaders in workwear RRL (pronounced Double R.L.) decided they wanted to sell their garments exclusively in store through selected retailers and also through RRL stores. This brand to some may seem a bit pricey but in all honesty there is no substitute to a piece of RRL clothing; their pieces are durable, authentic, and timeless. If I had the money, I'd buy every God Damn item on their site and that's the truth. RRL

What's That Jacket, Margiela!?

Hell yes it is, and that's Maison Martin Margiela to you. For Autumn/Winter, Margiela offers this Flecked Grey Hopsack Blazer with halved elbow patches. This double-button notch lapel blazer runs for a hefty $1,660. (Mr. Porter) The prices you pay for lookin' good... The brothers of FE wish you a happy ending to your week or beginning to your weekend.

Studio D'Artisan Organic Loopwheel Zip-Up

Studio D'Artisan, a Japanese clothing company started in 1979, who is primarily known for producing superior denim goods offers this beautiful zip up. This bad boy is loopwheel woven-- which means it woven very slowly to make a softer higher quality fabric at Wakayama Prefecture. We quite like it because of its simplicity and varsity jacket shape. Between the loopwheeling and vintage double needle cover stitching we'd say its worth every penny; for all you greenies out there it's organic. Get this at Blue In Green SOHO

Mark McNairy Suede Three Color Cap

Over here at Field Experience we like to keep things spicy. Is this a little more hood than what we usually post? Yeah, but so what? Made in New Jersey, this cap features three different colors of suede and a golden clasp on the back. A little bling never hurt anybody. From the one and only McNasty.

From the Vinyl Crate

During my weekly trip to my local record store, I stumbled upon this white label masterpiece that I thought deserved a post. Simply bearing the catalog name of "MICHAEL001" on the A-side, this record features two unaccredited edits of Michael Jackson classics "I Can't Help It", and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" by Norwegian producer Terje Olsen. While the B-side sounds more like a demo cut of "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", the A-Side features an upbeat disco edit that highlights the timeless vocals and a prominent bassline—a true gem that consistently entertains during the almost 10 minute track length. While I am unsure of it's availability digitally, you can pick up copies of this limited white label from Discogs here.

Thom Browne Solid Henley

No one does basics better than Mr. Thom Browne. To the untrained eye this may look like any other henley but the placement of buttons and the red/white/blue grosgrain trims goes along way in Modern American Sportswear. This pique piece is gritty, authentic, and incredibly expensive. Who else but Barney's could carry this?

And clever he is with the Carpincho Tassel Loafer. Although workwear is stealing the show a bit now that Fall is here, who can resist sleek and sexy? Hailing from the UK, George Cleverley was started in 1958 and now boasts Robb Report's best of the best award for 2011. Illesteva Lennox In Tortoise

An excellent pair of sunglasses from Illesteva. Surprisingly more conventional than the rest of their Fall/ Winter collection. When looking at the acetate frames Ray Ban's Wayfarers come to mind as well as Moscot's Lemtosh-- the bridge of the glasses in the shape of a keyhole-- but the real bread and butter of the Lennox is the clip on.
